Rospan Integrated Asset Modelling (IAM) and Conceptual Design*
Client: TNK-BP/ROSNEFT
Field (Type): Novo & Vostochno Urengoy (Gas & Condensate Production; Onshore Russia)
Objectives:
The client wanted support with the development of very complex and large integrated asset models (IAM) with suitable accuracy, functionality, and speed to provide value to ongoing field development efforts
The integrated asset models were needed to optimise full field development plans aimed at maximising the production of hydrocarbons for at least 30 years
The client wanted a usable integrated asset model to explore various “what-if” scenarios in a cost-effective, timely and accurate manner.
The client was exploring several options and a roadmap to steadily increase production capacity of the facilities to maximise reserves
The client’s full field development plan included extensive new well drilling programs which would see the addition of 230 extra production wells.
The client also intended to expand the gathering network for both fields and increase gas processing capacity by four times the current capacity
The integrated asset models were also needed to optimise existing operations.
The client desired integrated asset models with much faster run times but without compromising on accuracy
The client also wanted training and support provided on the use of the integrated asset models
Challenge: The client required clarity regarding the optimum and cost-effective field development approaches. Unfortunately, they were hampered by integrated asset models that were not sufficiently accurate and took too long (one week) to simulate.
Our Engagement*: The client’s previous attempts at integrating several isolated standalone models proved unsuccessful over the previous four years. The consultant was engaged because of their experience in asset optimisation and integrated asset modelling
Approach: Appraisal of existing technologies to select the optimum. Rationalisation of detailed reservoir, network, and facilities models to improve run-times. Integration of rationalised models
Stake: Inability to have required clarity regarding optimum field development approaches and consequent risks of implementing a substandard legacy
Results:
Successfully developed a robust and effective full field development integrated asset models
New integrated asset models simulated quickly enough to be usable (i.e., in less than 48 hours compared to a week previously)
Newly developed integrated asset models were demonstrated to be accurate enough to be relevant to the client’s full field development objectives and ongoing operational optimisation of the field.
