Andrew (AAD) Rewheel Gas Compression Study*
Client: BP
Field (Type): Andrew (Oil & Associated Gas; Offshore UK)
Objectives:
The client wanted to investigate existing operational, reliability and control issues of the compression train and desired recommendations to resolve them
The client required support to develop a new compressor rewheel design to resolve reliability issues
The client required support to size new rebundled compressor to handle future integration of satellite fields arising from wider field developments and expansions
Challenge: The driver for the study was existing reliability issues of the compression train and the unit not being fit for purpose for planned tie-in of satellite fields
Our Engagement*: We were engaged as Engineering Consultants because of our unique gas compression expertise and understanding of the client’s asset portfolio.
Approach: In-service performance analyses and benchmarking of gas compression train. Machinery and process modelling and simulation. Centrifugal compressor redesign and sizing.
Stake: Inability to get more value from the asset due to the compression train failing to accommodate additional hydrocarbons from planned tie-ins.
Results:
The efficiency of the compression train was demonstrated to have improved
The new design improved performance and integrity of the compression system
The process gas centrifugal compressors were successfully redesigned to handle tiebacks to Kinnoull, Arundel, LC and Mabel fields.
