Magnus System Improvement Study*
Client: BP
Field (Type): Magnus (Oil; Offshore UK)
Objectives:
The client required support in appraising the existing main oil pumping system
The client wanted recommendations of feasible options to improve its reliability, operability, and integrity
The client wanted recommendations on options to facilitate life extension of the asset for future operations
The client required support with the execution of design reviews of the existing main oil pumping system
The client needed assistance with carrying out in-service performance reviews of the existing main oil pumping system
The client required process modelling and simulation of the existing main oil pumping system as well for potential future designs and configurations
The client desired the development of a phased approach for implementing the recommended improvement options
Challenge: The driver for this study was existing reliability issues of the main oil pumping system and the system potentially not being fit for purpose for future operations
Our Engagement*: We were engaged as Engineering Consultants because of our project/study management and rotating equipment expertise.
Approach: Modelling and simulation. Design review and analysis. Performance analysis.
Stake: Persisting reliability and integrity issues with the main oil pumping system which could potentially lead to production losses and the equipment not delivering future production targets.
Results:
Phased improvement approach successfully developed and recommended to client
Cost-effective refurbishment and de-staging of existing pumps
Demonstrable improvements to operability, reliability and integrity
* NB: Some projects may have been performed by consultant in previous roles.
