Our Story
Built from the frustration of seeing great projects fail for engineering reasons
Eta Energy Solutions was founded by Sodi Toby, a gas compression engineer with deep roots in both the design of rotating equipment and the integrated asset modelling needed to select and deploy it optimally in the field.
After years of seeing mid-sized operators make costly compression decisions without access to the specialist depth available to the majors — and watching capable project teams fail because they lacked one crucial layer of technical expertise — Eta was established to bridge that gap.
The founding principle was, and remains, independence. Eta has no ownership links to OEM manufacturers and no commercial affiliations with EPC contractors. This is not a positioning statement — it is the structural foundation of everything we do. It means that when we recommend a technology or a contractor, that recommendation is driven by engineering merit alone.
Today, Eta operates as a network of senior engineering specialists, each with decades of focused experience, deployable on projects worldwide. Our ISO 9001 certification reflects our commitment to quality management that matches the standards our clients operate to.

Sodi Toby
Managing Director & Principal EngineerSodi is the founder of Eta Energy Solutions and the architect of our proprietary process methodologies. With over 20 years of specialist experience in gas compression engineering, integrated asset modelling, and rotating equipment optimisation, he has led projects for major operators across South America, Russia, Europe, and beyond. He holds a Masters in Engineering and is a Chartered Engineer.
Michael Drage
Senior Consultant — Process & Project EngineeringMichael is a process and project engineering consultant with more than 30 years of experience. He specialises in front-end conceptual design and has managed FEED studies, undertaken detailed design PMC roles, and provided operations support across oil & gas, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, Gas-to-Liquids, cryogenic, and air separation industries. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of IChemE.
